ATMA records Bach at Montreal Baroque Festival

The ATMA team is preparing to record its fifth volume of Bach’s sacred cantatas in conjunction with the annual Festival Montréal Baroque, which takes place from June 24 to 28.

This year’s recording will be devoted to Bach’s cantatas on the subject of “miracles and misfortunes” (BWV 72, 155 and 156 and 81) and will feature soloists Monika Mauch, soprano; Franziska Gottwald, alto; Charles Daniels, tenor; and Harry van der Kamp, bass with Bande Montréal Baroque directed from the organ by Eric Milnes.

The cantatas are performed on original instruments, with the choir singing one voice to a part, delivering an interpretation faithful to historical sources.

Festival Montréal Baroque is held every year in Old Montréal, with performance venues in churches, factories, and warehouses, some of which date back to the 18th century. The Festival has gained an international reputation amongst Early Music performers, and draws both artists and audience from around the world.

The live performance takes place on June 25 at 7:00 pm at the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours in Old Montréal. For more information about the Festival, visit www.montrealbaroque.com.
