Ensemble vents et percussions de Québec

The Ensemble vent et percussion de Québec was founded in 1995 by its current artistic and musical director, René Joly. From its inception, the Music Faculty of University Laval in Quebec City established the EVPQ as one of its ensembles in residence with the goal of significantly encouraging the development of a higher level of wind ensemble performance in the Quebec region.

This spirited ensemble of 55 musicians led by their dynamic musical director devotes its entire energy to the advancement of the finest works drawn from the wind ensemble repertoire. The performance of newer works which are destined to become standard repertory is also one of the principal objectives of the ensemble.

Apart from concerts given during the regular season in Salle Henri-Gagnon, University Laval's concert hall, the ensemble has also performed at the Grand Théâtre de Québec, the Palais Montcalm, the Convention Centre and the Saint John the Baptist Church. In 1998 the EVPQ gave the opening and closing concerts of the classical series of the Quebec City Summer Festival. EVPQ concerts have been heard regularly over the airwaves of the Société Radio-Canada as well as broadcast live via Internet. In 1997 the ensemble produced its premier recording on the ATMA label. The Lord of the Rings is currently in distribution across Canada, the United States and Japan. This CD was also nominated for a prix Opus given by the Conseil québécois de la musique in 1998.
