After having studied piano and violin at the Chicoutimi and Quebec City Music Conservatories, Madeleine Jalbert decided to opt for the voice, and obtained a Master of Arts degree in the class of Louise André at the University of Montreal. She went on to hone her craft in London and Mannheim with Anna Reynolds.
Her repertoire, which spans from Baroque to contemporary music, led her throughout Europe, where she lived a number of years. She participated in the premieres of works by Ahmed Essyad, Philippe Hersant, Wolfgang Rihm and Georges Aperghis. Soloist with the Concerts Colonne, the Musiciens du Louvre, l'orchestre InterContemporain and l'Orchestre philarmonique de Radio-France, she has also sung in the principal opera houses in France and Switzerland. She has been heard in the theatres of Strasbourg and Nancy, Metz, Toulouse, Nice, and Basle, especially in roles from English and German repertoire (Britten, Purcell, Strauss, and others).
Ms. Jalbert now divides her time between teaching and the pursuit of her career in Canada and abroad. Since her return to Quebec, she has given recitals and has performed with a number of Canadian ensembles, such as l Musici de Montreal and l'Orchestre symphonique de Québec.
