Queen of Puddings Music Theatre

, vocal ensemble

Dáirine Ní Mheadhra and John Hess, co-artistic directors of the Queen of Puddings Music Theatre, commissioned Sirens in 2000 and invited sopranos Danika Lorèn, Shannon Mercer, Magali Simard-Galdès, and Caitlin Wood, and mezzos Andrea Ludwig and Krisztina Szabo to sing for this recording of the work. Almost all of these singers, who are enjoying very active careers both in Canada and internationally, performed at the première of this work for multiple voices by Ana Sokolović or, in 2011, at the première of her opera Svadba. In the latter work, also scored for six female singers and also commissioned by the Queen of Puddings, the composer writes for voices using techniques she developed in Sirens. Svadba has enjoyed considerable success in many parts of the world.
