The Estria Woodwind Quintet gets its name from its home region of The Eastern Townships of Québec (Canada) or L'Estrie where it was founded in 1997. Estria's members are all accomplished musicians who hold diplomas in music performance from Le Conservatoire de Musique du Québec à Montréal and McGill University and who have established performing and teaching careers within the cities of Montréal and Sherbrooke, Québec. The group is extremely active within its region of The Eastern Townships and in addition to its own productions and regional tours, it has been invited to give concerts on other classical music series in the townships such as The Musique Chez Nous chamber music series in Lennoxville, The Musica Nova Ensemble contemporary music series, The Place de la Cité summer music series in Sherbrooke and The Festival du Lac Massawippi chamber music series in North Hatley. The group has also performed in other regions within the province of Québec, in the province of Ontario, in the United States and in Europe. Many of its presentations have been recorded and broadcast by La Société Radio-Canada. In addition to performing repertoire from the classical and romantic periods, Estria has a strong dedication to the music of our time and, to date, it has commissioned and premiered over a dozen new Canadian works for woodwind quintet.
