Formerly with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Manuela Milani has been a member of the National Arts Centre Orchestra since 1998 and is also concertmaster of Thirteen Strings. An avid chamber musician, she is heard regularly on CBC Radio and Radio-Canada. She has performed at major festivals including Festival Lanaudière, Festival of the Sound and the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival. She plays second violin on the Ottawa Chamber Music Society’s acclaimed recording of Haydn’s Seven Last Words of Christ. She was awarded a First Prize by the Conservatoire de musique du Québec where her teachers were Jean-François Rivest in Chicoutimi and Sonia Jeliniková in Montreal. With a grant from the Quebec Arts Council, she studied with Sylvia Rosenberg at the Manhattan School of Music and at Indiana University. As winner of the Janácek prize at the 1993 Montreal Czech and Slovak music competition, she was invited to perform recitals in Prague, Brno and Bratislava.
