A native of Saguenay, Marianne Dugal studied piano and violin at the conser-vatories in Chicoutimi and in Montreal. She has won several competitions in the province, and has performed as soloist with several orchestras — including, on two occasions, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal conducted by Charles Dutoit. She completed her studies at the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida, with Sergiu Schwartz, and won first prize in the National Society of Arts and Letters violin competition. On returning to Montreal, she became a member of the ensemble I Musici. Since 1999, she has been a member of the first violin section of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. She is very active as a chamber music player, and her concerts and recitals are fre-quently broadcast on both the French- and English-language national broadcasting networks in Canada.
