Quatuor La Flûte Enchantée

Le Quatuor la Flûte Enchantée (The Magic Flute Quartet) was founded in 1985, at Québec's Conservatory of Music in Montréal, in the chamber music class of Mr. Aimé Lainesse. Its four members are experienced flutists, who are all graduates of Mr. Jean-Paul Major's flute program, from the same music school. During their studies, each musician earned unanimous first prizes in flute and in chamber music. Covering all musical eras, the group's repertoire contains a wide variety of original %22four flute%22 pieces, as well as transcriptions made by the group members and compositions dedicated to them.

Since its creation, the quartet has been heard repeatedly in Québec, Ontario, New Brunswick and France with the collaboration, among others, of Youth and Music Canada. The group participated several times in the %22Jeunes artistes%22 series of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and also in the Debut concerts (Young concerts artists series inc.).

Along with its regular performances, the quartet produces thematic concerts each year, introducing a diverse public of all ages to classical music. The quartet was sponsored by the %22Office franco-québécois pour la jeunesse%22 (OFQJ), which twice took them to Saint-Malo, France. In 1995, the %22Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec%22 (Québec's arts and letters council) awarded a scholarship to the quartet, to produce a professional recording.
