Marie-Danielle Parent

, soprano

Soprano Marie-Danielle Parent is renowned for her ability to sing in every style of the classical repertoire. She has performed with most leading canadian symphony orchestras, appeared in many roles at the opera and gave numerous recitals that have been broadcasted by CBC radio and television networks.

Excelling in the interpretation of contemporary works, she has premiered many canadian compositions in Europe and in Canada, some of them having been recorded on CD. In 1992, she was soloist in the world premiere of Gilles Tremblay's Avec (Wampum symphonique), for an Euroradio concert hosted by the Union européenne de radiodiffusion in celebration of Montreal's 350th anniversary, with Charles Dutoit conducting the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

A frequent guest of SMCQ, she performed under its auspices her Histoires extraordinaires, a musical play, which was later revived in a « Jouer dans l'Île » tour of the Montreal Urban Community. In 1995, she gave an unforgettable performance of György Kurtag's Mémoires de feu Demoiselle Troussova, as well as a touching rendering of Jean Papineau-Couture's La Chanson de Rahit at a concert celebrating SMCQ's thirtieth anniversary, in November 1996.
