Matthias Maute

Matthias Maute has acquired an international reputation as a recorder player, flutist and composer. In 1990 he was awarded first prize in the Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges, Belgium. A founding member of Trio Passaggio, with whom he won the chamber music competition of the Dutch Impresariat (1993), he performs regularly with Rebel, which he joined as a member in 1991. His compositions are published with Amadeus, Moeck, Mieroprint, Carus and Ascolta. Miserere, his double concerto for viola, cello and orchestra will be premiered in Boston in 2002. Matthias Maute teaches at McGill University in Montreal. He wrote a book about improvisation on the recorder. Besides, he likes to play tennis (unfortunately he does not play very well).
