Alison Melville's career as a player of recorder and histo-rical flutes has taken her across Canada from St. John's to Whitehorse, and to the USA, England, lceland, Japan and Europe. A member of the Toronto Consort, she appears frequently with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and was a soloist on their Juno Award-winning Sony recording of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. She has worked for radio, television and film, notably in Atom Egoyan's The Sweet Hereafter and CBC- TV's The Friendly Giant. She has also performed new music for Soundstreams, New Music Concerts, and CBC's Two New Hours, and has a persona! interest in the traditiona! music of Scotland and Scandinavia. Her first solo CD,
Curious Collection for the Common Flute
, met with international critical acclaim, and she has recorded with the Toronto Consort. She studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis as the winner of various awards from the Canada Council, and teaches in Toronto and at workshops across North America.
