Jane Archibald to record CD with Bienne Orchestra

ATMA Classique’s third recording with the prestigious Bienne Orchestra of Switzerland under Thomas Rösner will be an all-Haydn programme featuring the superb Canadian soprano Jane Archibald. The recording sessions will take place next fall in the magnificent 1895 Solothurn concert hall, designed by architect Alexander Koch.

Jane Archibald has achieved stunning success as a Canadian singer on the world stage. She stepped in on short notice to replace the ailing Natalie Dessay in the Met’s new production of Ambroise Thomas’s Hamlet, which opened on March 16.

Ms. Archibald’s recent and upcoming engagements include Rosina (Barber of Seville) in Geneva, the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor in Berlin, Zerbinetta and Konstanze at the Bavarian State Opera Munich, Cunégonde (Candide) at Vlaamse Opera, Cleopatra at the Opéra National de Paris, Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) at La Scala Milan and Zerbinetta at Baden-Baden Festival with Christian Thielemann and Renée Fleming. Audiences can look forward to her Canadian Opera Company debut in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos in spring, 2011.

ATMA’s previous recordings with the Bienne Orchestra include Schindler’s List and a historic Wagner recording to be released in 2010, made in the composer’s home in Tribschcen, Switzerland.
