ATMA signs pianist Ian Parker

ATMA Classique is pleased to announce the signing of Canadian pianist Ian Parker to the label. His first recording for ATMA will be released August 31 and features Parker as soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra under conductor Michael Francis. Recorded at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios, this CD includes major works for piano and orchestra by Ravel, Stravinsky, and Gershwin.

The magnetic Ian Parker captivates audiences wherever he goes. Born in Vancouver to a family of pianists, he began his piano studies at age three with his father, Edward Parker. He is the younger cousin of concert pianists Jon Kimura Parker and Jamie Parker and holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School, where he was a student of Yoheved Kaplinsky. While at Juilliard, the Canada Council for the Arts awarded him the Sylva Gelber Career Grant, which is given annually to the “most talented Canadian artist.”

Ian Parker has several concert dates across Canada this fall, including appearances with the Victoria Symphony on September 11 and 12, and a concert with the Attacca String Quartet on October 22 at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
