ATMA welcomes mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne

The extraordinary Grammy Award-nominated mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne has signed a deal to record with ATMA Classique. Her first ATMA offering —a solo recording of Mahler song cycles arranged for chamber ensemble — will be released next month to mark the centenary of the composer’s death.

Julie Boulianne is one of today’s most promising singers and has been praised by the New York Times for her “subtle and pure” voice. The 2011 season has been especially rich in prestigious engagements for Boulianne, and included her debut performances in three roles over three months at the Metropolitan Opera in New York: Diane in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, Stéphano in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette (under the baton of Placido Domingo), and Isolier in Rossini’s Le comte Ory. During these performances, she shared the stage with renowned singers Juan Diego Flórez and Susan Graham.

Closer to home, Boulianne is currently performing in l’Opéra de Montréal’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro, where her Cherubino was called “one of the jewels of the show” by La Presse.

Toronto audiences will have two opportunities to hear her live at Glenn Gould Studio in the CBC Broadcasting Centre: on Monday, October 3 she will be featured in Prima Donna - a concert celebrating CBC's 75th anniversary, along with two other fine singers who have recorded for ATMA: Marianne Fiset and Aline Kutan. Johannes Debus directs the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra for this concert, which will be broadcast nationally on Sunday October 30 on CBC Radio 2.

Boulianne returns to Glenn Gould Studio on February 26, 2012 for a solo recital, part of the Canadian Voices series presented by Roy Thomson Hall.
