Les Voix Baroques — an ensemble of world-class vocal soloists led by Artistic Director Matthew White — hits the road later this week for a tour of Colombia. For this South American voyage to Tunja, Bogota, and Girardot, White has created a program entitled Dennos Lecencia Señores: Indios, Negritos y Música de Criolla en la Nueva España — South American music written by Spanish composers based in the new world during the colonial period. This colorful program includes indios (native pieces), negritos (pieces with African influence brought by the slaves) and Spanish popular dances.
Les Voix Baroques’ most recent ATMA recording of oratorios by Giacomo Carissimi was praised for its “Harmonic progressions [that] open like flowers in slow-motion photography; pungent dissonances, perfectly tuned, [that] arch and resolve.” (Globe and Mail)
