Canadian cellist Denise Djokic makes her New York concerto debut with Alondra de la Parra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. Both still in their twenties, these gifted women share the spotlight for Celebración de un sueño (Celebration of a Dream), a gala concert event that celebrates 20th-century music by Latin and American composers. Ms. Djokic performs Espejos en la Arena (Mirrors in the Sand) by renowned Mexican composer Arturo Marquez for this high-profile debut.
Ms. Djokic’s debut ATMA recording — the complete Britten Solo Suites — was declared, "easily able to stand alongside the great recordings of Rostropovich and Wispelwey" by AllMusic.com’s Mike D. Brownell, and received further critical acclaim from such publications such as Fanfare and The Strad.
Ms. Djokic has been the subject of a BRAVO! TV documentary entitled Seven Days, Seven Nights, and has also appeared as a speaker at IdeaCity in Toronto and the Women In Leadership Conference at Queen’s University. Macleans magazine named her one of the top "25 Canadians who are Changing our World", and ELLE magazine declared her one of "Canada's Most Powerful Women".
