Founded in 1999, the Canadian Guitar Quartet (CGQ) has established itself on the international stage through numerous performances across three continents, earning standing ovations at every stop and securing its place among the world’s leading guitar ensembles. The quartet has released four critically acclaimed albums and has been performing regularly for over 20 years, both in recital and with orchestra, in Canada and abroad.

Its debut concert in New York, presented as part of the 92nd Street Y’s Art of the Guitar series, was a resounding success. Don Witter Jr. of the New York City Classical Guitar Society wrote: “The Canadian Guitar Quartet delivered one of the finest New York debuts seen in decades, across all artistic ensembles… ASTONISHING!!!”

Beyond its concerts and recordings, the CGQ is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation through workshops, masterclasses, and private lessons. Despite changes in its lineup over the years, the ensemble remains steadfastly dedicated to its core mission: offering chamber music at the highest level, skillfully pairing arrangements of major classical works with bold contemporary pieces—including guitar quartets composed by current and former members of the group. With its engaging repertoire, assured virtuosity, and warm stage presence, the CGQ makes every performance an unforgettable experience.

The Canadian Guitar Quartet performs on Knobloch strings.
