Founded in 2023, Duo Étrange was born from the meeting of two classically trained musicians, Sahara von Hattenberger and Vanessa Croome, driven by the desire to create a personal project rooted in the sounds and techniques that shaped their musical identities. Both grew up as young musicians in small towns on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, before pursuing their studies at McGill University.

Yet their paths did not cross until 2023, during their first collaboration at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur in Montreal. Their friendship and artistic rapport feel almost destined, grounded in shared origins and a common determination to give meaning to life through music.
