Marina Thibeault

Endowed with a “dense and generous tone, and precise, sober, and majestic diction” (Diapason), violist Marina Thibeault brings remarkable depth and richness to her performances across a wide range of genres. Named Révélation of the Year 2016–2017 by Radio-Canada, she has since appeared throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe, offering dynamic concerts marked by an elegant and engaging stage presence.

Marina has performed as a soloist with the North Czech Philharmonic Teplice, the Mariánské Lázně Symphony Orchestra, the Santiago Chamber Orchestra, the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Orchestre Métropolitain, and Sinfonia Toronto, among others.

Her debut album, Toquade, released in April 2017 on the ATMA Classique label, was nominated for Classical Album of the Year at both the 2017 ADISQ Gala and the 2018 Opus Awards. Her second recording, ELLES, nominated for a 2020 JUNO Award, pays tribute to pioneering women composers—from Clara Schumann to contemporary voices. In line with her research on gender in music, Marina has developed multiple versions of the ELLES project to raise awareness about the challenges faced by vulnerable women and to highlight organizations dedicated to supporting this important cause.

As an educator, Marina Thibeault joined the faculty of the UBC School of Music as Assistant Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at the start of the 2019–20 academic year. She has also been teaching at the Domaine Forget since the summer of 2019.
