Orchestre Baroque de Montréal

Formation : Orchestra

Founded in 1989, the Montreal Baroque Orchestra (OBM), specializing in the performance of repertoire from the 17th to the early 19th centuries, offers, through thematic concerts, a panorama of orchestral and vocal music from the Baroque, Classical, and pre-Romantic periods. Led from the keyboard (harpsichord, organ, or fortepiano) by Joël Thiffault and comprising up to fifty musicians depending on the repertoire, the Montreal Baroque Orchestra plays on period instruments, thus creating the perfect conditions to restore Baroque music to its full splendor and magnificence. The meticulous preparation of the concerts, supported by the latest musicological research, and the OBM’s conviction, combined with the passion of its conductor, masterfully bring the works to life, giving them depth and clarity, and promising the listener a constantly renewed musical experience. The Montreal Baroque Orchestra enjoyed great success during its tours in France in 1989 and 1990, participated in the Lanaudière International Festival (Quebec) in 1992, and undertook a “Playing on the Island” tour (CACUM) in 1993. The OBM has also performed numerous times on Radio-Canada. Since its inception, the Montreal Baroque Orchestra has played to over eighty thousand people and given nearly 300 performances in Montreal, throughout Quebec, in Belgium, France, Mexico, and Turkey.
