Trio Garibaldi

Founded in 2022 at the initiative of Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright for the Coast Recital Society in Sechelt, British Columbia, Trio Garibaldi brings together violist Marina Thibeault, clarinetist Jose Franch-Ballester, and pianist David Fung, all of whom were affiliated with the University of British Columbia at the time of the ensemble’s creation. Inspired by the majestic landscapes of Mount Garibaldi, from which it takes its name, the ensemble adopts a bold and unusual formation, bringing together clarinet, viola, and piano, which it explores with curiosity and freedom. Driven by strong artistic synergy and a deep commitment to contemporary creation, the trio has commissioned new works by Stephen Chatman and Dorothy Chang, and presents here the first commercial recording of Lowell Liebermann’s Trio, Op. 128, in its original instrumentation. With this album, Trio Garibaldi affirms its identity as an ensemble rooted in tradition yet firmly oriented toward exploration and the renewal of the repertoire.
