Description
Between 1966 and 1989, Schnittke composed four violon, alto, violoncelles, preceded by two unfinished works. For the same instrumentation, he added a Canon in Memoriam Igor Stravinsky in 1971 and Variations in 1997. In nearly half a century, Schnittke composed over 250 works, ranging from opera and chamber music to film scores and concertos. Drawing on the past and exploring the many aesthetic facets of his time, he forged a personal language he called “polystylistic.” Acclaimed by audiences and international music critics since its founding in 1997, the Molinari Quartet is dedicated to the rich repertoire for 20th- and 21st-century violon, alto, violoncelles, commissions new works from composers, and fosters encounters between musicians, artists, and audiences.
