Around the Harpe

Description

Led by Jennifer Swartz, principal Harpeist of the OSM and a prolific soloist, the Montreal Chamber Players, a group of passionate chamber musicians, all OSM members and longtime collaborators, have come together to present a French repertoire of primarily post-Romantic and Impressionist works. The pieces by a young Ravel and a Debussy at the height of his powers are interwoven with three masterpieces by lesser-known but equally essential composers: Ropartz with an ode deeply inspired by Breton folklore celebrating the sea of his childhood; Koechlin with one of his last completed works, in which his infallible intuition as an orchestrator is evident; and Roussel with his Sérénade, a musical snapshot brimming with the vibrant visual and poetic impressions of Paris during the Roaring Twenties.
