Description
ATMA presents six “new” concertos which, due to their extremely varied instrumentation, are arranged in a sequence inspired by Bach’s six true Brandenburg Concertos, reconstructed by musicologist Bruce Haynes. Far from taking themselves too seriously, these six concertos are more like sonic explorations that exploit the inventive instrumental treatment already found in the cantatas and other vocal works of the cantor. Under the direction of Eric Milnes, the Montreal Baroque Band brings together some of Montreal’s finest period-instrument musicians. The ensemble was formed specifically for the Montreal Baroque Festival, held in June in Old Montreal since 2003, and whose artistic direction is overseen by Alto da gamba player Susie Napper.
