This is the third volume on disc of this ambitious cycle of Sainte-Colombe’s Concerts for Two Equal Viols, performed by Les Voix Humaines. This complete recording is a first in the history of sound recording. Considered by many to be the greatest and most enigmatic viol player of the 17th century, Sainte-Colombe provided director Alain Corneau with the subject of his 1991 film, Tous les matins du monde (All the Mornings of the World). Sainte-Colombe’s music is haunting, rich in contrasts and colors, and evokes powerful emotions.
