Schubert • Winterreise

Description

Winterreise as you’ve probably never heard it before! Here is a unique version of Schubert’s cycle of 24 lieder set to texts by Wilhelm Müller, which, while remaining faithful to the original text, offers a decidedly contemporary vision of the work. The inherent colors of Schubert’s piano part give rise quite naturally to the unusual combination of the Pentaèdre wind quintet and Joseph Petric’s accordion, while the composer’s expressive melodies are masterfully served by the accomplished artistry of Christoph Prégardien. One of the most eminent lyric tenors, Prégardien brings to this Schubert masterpiece all the experience of his brilliant career in early music. For its part, Pentaèdre has already proven its ability to renew the classics thanks to its impeccable musical and theatrical sensibility. As for Joseph Petric, he dedicated his life to taking the accordion out of its traditional boundaries, not only through his virtuoso performances of works borrowed from other instruments, but also through a full schedule of commissions from the best contemporary composers.
