This sampler disc brings together a selection of pieces chosen by Kiya Tabassian from four ATMA releases, plus a previously unreleased track featuring countertenor Daniel Taylor. This anthology also showcases three remarkable singers, all specialists in this repertoire: Françoise Atlan, Anne Azéma, and Ghada Shbeir. Since its founding in 1998, the Constantinople Ensemble, under the artistic direction of Kiya Tabassian, has explored the traditional and early classical music of the Mediterranean. Creating a unique language that allows for free improvisation and original composition, Constantinople nevertheless retains the fundamental forms of the music it reinterprets.
