Baritone Dominique Côté conceived of the album Amour et Fantaisie: mélodies de Lionel Daunais as a portrait that pays homage to a unique artist in the Canadian musical landscape. Daunais was celebrated as a writer, composer, author, performer, artistic director, and radio host. His catchy music is influenced by French melodies and songs, sometimes with a jazzy edge. A man of the theatre, Daunais managed to create entire characters and scenarios within the space of a song.
