Description
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of one of the worst natural disasters in Quebec history and to celebrate the courage and humanity that emerged from it, the album Symphonie de la tempête de verglas takes the listener into the musical whirlwind of Quebec composer Maxime Goulet. The Montreal Classical Orchestra, under the direction of Jacques Lacombe, performs three of his works: Fishing Story, A Whole Day and the eponymous Ice Storm Symphony.
The Ice Storm Symphony evokes various aspects of the 1998 ice storm crisis (storm that occurred on January 4, 1998) and offers the public the opportunity to recall its highlights. It also aims to raise awareness of the importance of our ecosystem, highlighting the vulnerability of our environment. At the same time, the work evokes hope, the light emerging from this darkness, that is to say empathy, generosity and mutual aid, even Quebec heroism during and after these events that have marked us all.
Composer Maxime Goulet works in many spheres of musical creation, ranging from symphonic music to video games. His classical music works are regularly performed around the world by prestigious ensembles, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, the Houston Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He has composed over 30 video game soundtracks, including Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade and The Amazing Spider-Man. He is also the creator of the Montreal Video Game Symphony, in collaboration with the Orchestre Métropolitain, for the celebrations of the 375th anniversary of the city of Montreal.
