Description

From the wonder of Jurassic Park and E.T. to the magical world of Harry Potter, the adventure of Indiana Jones, the suspense of Jaws, and the poignant emotion of Schindler’s List, the program showcases the extraordinary richness of John Williams’s orchestral language. The album also ventures into the Star Wars universe with Across the Stars, Princess Leia’s Theme, and the majestic Throne Room & Finale. Together, these works illustrate his exceptional gift for creating instantly recognizable melodies and translating suspense, heroism, lyricism, and wonder into music.

Recorded live at the Maison symphonique in Montreal, this tribute also seeks to capture the full power and immediacy of Williams’ music in performance. Produced by ATMA Classique and recorded by 2xHD, the album embraces a philosophy of capturing the orchestra’s natural sound rather than reconstructing it artificially in the studio, preserving the energy, spontaneity, and emotion of a true symphonic experience. This approach extends to the recording process itself.

The orchestra was captured using, among other equipment, a matched pair of 1951 Neumann M50 vacuum tube microphones, following a minimalist approach designed to preserve the depth and spatial realism of the hall. Recorded in DXD, the performance retains the orchestra’s exceptional dynamic range, from its most delicate passages to its most powerful crescendos, allowing the natural acoustics of the hall, the balance of the orchestra, and the artistry of the musicians to shape the final sound.

With A Tribute to John Williams, the FILMharmonique Orchestra continues its mission of building bridges between the symphonic repertoire and the world of cinema. Since its founding in 2015, the Canadian ensemble has distinguished itself through film concerts featuring Harry Potter, Star Wars, Titanic, Gladiator, Fantasia, and The Lord of the Rings, introducing the power of the orchestra to an ever-wider audience.
